Starving Artist

The starving artist stereotype is one we are familiar with. An individual in the relentless pursuit of their dream of creating art for a living. These people are usually filled to the brim with talent but lack the funds and other necessary resources, and often struggle to make ends meet. Oversaturation of the art world leaves many artists without opportunities to make money from their creative work. Unfortunately, they often turn to side jobs which gives them even less time to make art and some eventually ditch their dreams altogether.

Our founder, Paul Hentschel, identified this problem and created Chez Flaneur as the unique solution. There are artists everywhere, big and small, near and far, young and old, and they need a unifying space to reset, create and celebrate. We are building a system to help these individuals launch their careers and earn a living wage for their art. Through working with individual artists, we will develop case studies upon which to build templates to help more and more people. We are creating a community that will provide mentorship, shared knowledge and a sense of belonging for all. From our own wealth of knowledge we will also provide individual services for business skills, self-marketing and accounting. These are necessary resources that many artists lack but will propel an artist forward in their career. All of these powerful tools will merge in our innovative Chez Flaneur production companies where we actually create the demand for artists’ talents. These organizations will not only allow artists to gain valuable industry experience, but also provide the living wage needed for them to continue making art. In addition, these production companies are opportunities for thirsty creatives, supporters of the arts, and contributors of all sorts to actually turn their big ideas into a reality! We plan to yield tangible results that serve society, enhance artists' work and involve anyone who wants to contribute!

Have something you want to contribute? A big idea, production space, knowledge, resources or more? Let us know!
