Launch Plan

The Launch Plan

Chez Flaneur Art Society is a start up, launched August 1, 2020.  We are breaking the rules of business:

  1. We have not done market research.   We believe that the best market research is to seek input from our members and the public.

  2. We do not have a suite of finished products or services.  We have created a framework that is comprehensive and has identified what may be developed over time.  Members will benefit from participation in the development of the products and services.  It is an opportunity to gain work experience and create businesses.

  3. We are launching anyway.  It is better to start today rather than wait for tomorrow.  Why wait to get all the ducks in a row and the cats herded.  In short, it would be folly to wait for perfection and a waste of time when we could be helping Artists today.

What we have in place today:

  1. A framework of the Society, comprised of this website with linked websites for the Art Companies.  This framework includes key functionality such as social media links, a newsletter and a retail sales outlet.

  2. A core team of people that can continue their work in making the Society.  They can also take on projects from Thirsty Creatives and talent management of Starving Artists.

  3. Artist representation in key areas of music, video and writing.

  4. An international group of professional artists, representing Canada, South Africa, Jamaica and the USA.

  5. A Thirsty Creative as a client.

  6. A Supporter who has provided seed capital for start up and operations..

Next Steps:

  1. Complete existing projects on behalf of Thirsty Creatives

  2. Complete existing talent management mandates on behalf of Starving Artists

  3. Develop offerings (products and services) and roles of 4 Art Companies

    1. Art Management @ Chez Flaneur - The Business of Art

    2. Story Time @ Chez Flaneur - written and visual productions

    3. Art Shop @ Chez Flaneur - retail outlet for Members

    4. Celestial Events @ Chez Flaneur - event management company

  4. Develop a Craft Guild - “Storytelling”

  5. Develop a Club House - “Port Revy”

  6. Recruit Mentors - as career guides and teachers

  7. Recruit Leaders/ Participants  - for Art Companies, Craft Guilds and Club Houses

When these Next Steps are completed, then we will relaunch.  We will have a refined focus, a well oiled machine and a developed suite of products/ services.  Along the way, we will develop templates and document lessons learned (Case Studies).  We will organically grow our Membership.

Message from our Founder

I am a Thirsty Creative.  After getting a B.Comm. and then working in real estate finance for 40 years until retirement, I realized that there was a need to explore my creative side.  Also, after researching what philosophers and scientists have recommended as keys to a happy life, I decided to take action.  Hence, Chez Flaneur Art Society was created.  The key recommendations to live a happier life:

  1. Help others:  Help Artists who simply want to earn a decent living?  Help young people struggling in today’s world to get started in their careers?  Help older people to transition from careers to retirement?

  2. Join a community:  Join a community of Artists, as creative people are fun!  Better yet, make your own community!

  3. Creativity and Renewal:  When you retire, Joseph Campbell said it is wise to give yourself a new name and change your manner of dress.  Hence, Reggie Flaneur, my creative personna, was born.

  4. Develop mastery in something new:  The art business is new to me.  The good news is that it is new to almost everyone else, given the changes in society and technology.  In retirement, you can give yourself any job title you want.  Hence, Artpreneur.

  5. Experiences:  As versus things.  Get off the Hedonic Treadmill.  Experiences are happening around you, in the here and now, while you are aiming for a distant objective (a thing, a job title, a pay raise).  Why not make the most of it?

In creating Chez Flaneur, my priorities are:

  1. Happiness:  Create more happiness for those around me and therefore for myself.

  2. Money:  Make money for those around me through and therefore for myself through spin-offs.  It’s a long shot, but you gotta hope!  It could happen!

The result will be a Case of One, that will be a template for others who are Thirsty Creatives or who wish to support the arts.
